Mission Statement
St. Andrew's is a Methodist Controlled Primary School. We provide an excellent education in a Christian context from a firm Christian base. Although our roots lie in Methodism we welcome children of different religions and cultural backgrounds. We are committed to the highest achievement possible for the children in our charge and in working with children we welcome the partnership with parents and the local authority and involvement in the local community.
We aim to teach, support and encourage each other recognising and developing the gifts God has given us all.
The School's curriculum will be planned, delivered and evaluated in the light of the best provision we can make for our children preparing them for the opportunities, experiences and responsibilities of life.

Our Achievements
We are very proud of our many achievements at St Andrew's.
In 2005 we were awarded the Basic Skills Award
We are an eco school, and have been awarded the Silver Eco School's Award
In July 2006 we were awarded both the local and national Healthy School's Awards
We encourage all pupils to work towards reaching their full potential at St Andrew's, and our efforts are rewarded each year when the Year 6 pupils take their KS2 SATs.
In summer 2006
In Maths, 97% of our pupils gained Level 4 or above in the KS2 SATs. A magnificent 53% of the class achieved a Level 5.
In English, 93% gained Level 4 or above and 27% gained a level 5.
In Science 97% gained Level 4 or above and 60% gained a level 5.
Our consistently high results ensure that when our pupils move on to High School, they are well equipped for their future studies.
Church/School Links
Our school enjoys a fruitful relationship with Walkden Methodist Church. The minister, Rev'd Knowles leads weekly worship in school and is our Vice Chair of the Governing Body. Many other governing body members are members of the church. The Methodist youth worker, Julia, is also a regular visitor to school. She runs a fun, lunchtime club as well as leading assemblies and mentoring individual children.
The chair of the governing body is Brian Evitts. He is a lay preacher from the church and is a great support to the pupils and staff in school.
Other church members contribute to our school is many differen t ways.
Dawn Meeson leads a weekly overseas group. The children keep in touch with a school in Phakamisa, South Africa and send photographs, books, letters etc to the children there.
Mona Smith, another governor, gives reading support to pupils in Y3 and Y4.
Sheila Henshaw (wife of the church organist!) runs our gardening group. Many flowers and vegetables are grown. September 2006 saw a bumper crop of tomatoes!
Education Sunday
This is celebrated each year in spring. It is held alternately in church and school. School and church come together to worship and give thanks for the strong relationship that exists between them.
