A warm welcome awaits anyone who comes to join with the fellowship and members at Kearsley Mount which is situated on Manchester Road in the heart of Kearsley. It’s a large brick built building. Kearsley Mount has gone through an amazing transformation; it has been refurbished as a church, community centre and conference area. The rapidly growing congregation which meets at 10.30am on a Sunday morning now has a large active young people’s work called Chosen Generation (a name the children chose themselves and reflects how they think God sees them)

The church now hosts nearly 700 people a week including Kearsley Youth Brass Band which has around 40 playing members who join us for worship on a regular basis throughout the year. The Guitar Group meet on Monday teatime and the Community Choir meet at Kearsley Mount on a Monday evening for fun and the rapidly developing singing group are frequently called upon to sing publicly (why not join!). The church has bible study groups which meet during Lent, a regular coffee morning for fellowship and conversation (First & Third Tuesdays)

The church has strong ties to Churches on the Mount (COTM) working well with St Stephen’s (Anglican) and St John Fisher (Roman Catholic) (who host the Schoenstatt Shrine). COTM come together at Pentecost and Remembrance Sunday.  They has a sub group Kearsley Festival Group who are responsible for Kearsley in Bloom, a Scarecrow Festival and Christmas Tree in Kearsley including the wonder light switching on where hundreds gather to celebrate by singing carols.

We have close links with Spindle Point Primary School, one of the local Primary Schools who join us occasionally to worship especially their magnificent Christmas nativity service. The Circuit’s youth worker, Mrs Naomi Rostron visits the school and occasionally leads assemblies.

Mr Stephen Tonge is the community and ecumenical co-ordinator and is now a governor at Kearsley Academy.

Why not visit Kearsley Mount for worship or simply to sit in the established gardens around the Church; enjoy a sit in the sun on the bench in our Peace Garden or socialise in the Community Garden patio area.

St Catherine’s is an Anglican/ Methodist LEP and is situated at the top end of Highfield Road in the Highfield Estate, Farnworth. St Catherine’s was built in the 1990s. The church has a rapidly growing church family focused in particular on young families and children. The Sunday morning services include a formal Eucharist at 8am and family worship at 10am which includes a lively children’s group who meet in the rear of the church except when there is a family service.

The children’s church is led with lively and interactive children’s teaching. The 7pm family communion service on Thursday evenings has grown rapidly since it began two years ago. It lasts 45 minutes and we regularly see over 50 people in attendance half of whom are children. So God is moving in the congregation and it’s great to see so many folks there.

Admittance to Communion and Confirmation classes are run as part of the Seven Saints’ team of which St. Catherine’s is also a member. The minister is Revd Jane Greenhalgh (Anglican). The church has contacts with local schools and it also hosts a Filipino Church on Sunday afternoons.

Various midweek activities are held in the church for all ages – for further details visit the web site and have a look at the weekly news sheets.

A lively and warm welcome awaits anyone who comes to worship at St. Catherine’s.

Walkden is a large, modern and lively church situated on the A6 in Walkden. The fellowship has a passion for the local community through the local hospice, the uniformed organisations and St Andrew’s Methodist Primary School (Methodist sponsored), which is supported by the church. We meet for worship on Sunday mornings (10.30am) and Sunday evening (6.15pm). We also have four house groups, a regular church prayer meeting and a number of devotional groups including a choir who help to lead worship. The modern building (built in 1991) is flexible and used to host a continuous flow of community activities from dancing to karate, weight watchers, table-tennis and one- off events. Our worship on Sunday mornings is led by a minister or Local Preacher and the church is fully equipped with a loop system and digital screen projectors.

Walkden Methodist Church is actively involved in Churches Together and works in the community with its brothers and sisters in Christ to share the good news of Jesus, support charities, raise funds and engage in support of the local community where it can.

As minister and on behalf of everyone who goes there, we are committed to remaining in Little Hulton on the site where we’ve been for the last 136 years. That way we can keep alive all the community activities like the Foodbank, the Community Café, the Gardening Group and Allotments as well as the Morris Dancers. The building is not about to be demolished but we are making plans for the future to safeguard everyone who uses and values Cleggs Lane as a Church and Community Centre. But we know that we cannot keep the old building forever.  All the building surveys tell us it’s not a viable option. So in order to keep going, we are committed to building a brand new, purpose built church and community centre on the same site, which will have room for everyone. And we won’t do anything to the old building until the new one is finished which will take at least two years. That way we can make sure the Church, Foodbank, Café and Dancers will always have a place to operate from. I am happy to meet with anyone who wants to hear more about how we are actively working to safeguard this much loved community resource. Why not call into the Community Café on a Tuesday lunchtime and have a chat with our leadership team. Rev Philip Brooks, Minister, Cleggs Lane Church and Community Centre.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Worsley Road North Methodist Church                                                                                           Argyle Avenue, Walkden, Worsley M28 3GD           Tel: 01204 776961                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Minister with pastoral oversight: Revd Stuart Wild
